Acid Etching Surface Treatment of Feldspathic , Alumina and Zirconia Ceramics : a Micro - Morphological Sem Analysis

چکیده
Introduction Several attempts have been made to develop ceramic systems without metal frameworks. To date, there is an increasing range of dental ceramics allowing clinicians to combine very good esthetics with optimal mechanical properties, such as glass-infiltrated porcelain, aluminaand zirconia-reinforced ceramics . Several authors have described different surface treatments to improve the adhesion of all ceramic restorations. A recent in vitro study showed that the bond strength of resin-based cements is affected by the structural characteristics of ceramics. It has been well documented that creating a microretentive surface texture and silane priming are necessary to obtain a reliable bond to all ceramic restorations . A microretentive surface texture can be obtained with either chemical or mechanical methods. The chemical etching of traditional silica-based dental ceramics was first reported in 1983. Subsequently, several

Micro-morphological changes prior to adhesive bonding: high-alumina and glassy-matrix ceramics.
The aim of this study was to qualitatively demonstrate surface micro-morphological changes after the employment of different surface conditioning methods on high-alumina and glassy-matrix dental ceramics. Three disc-shaped high-alumina specimens (In-Ceram Alumina, INC) and 4 glassy-matrix ceramic specimens (Vitadur Alpha, V) (diameter: 5 mm and height: 5 mm) were manufactured. INC specimens wer...
متن کاملA novel etching technique for surface treatment of zirconia ceramics to improve adhesion of resin-based luting cements
Objectives: Bonding of zirconia crowns and bridges to abutments is important, not only bonding of the thin resin layer to the abutment, but also bonding to the zirconia ceramic is crucial. Both mechanical and chemical adhesion are desired. Mechanical retention of dental porcelain achieved by etching with moderately concentrated hydrofluoric acid is not possible with zirconia ceramics. The purpo...
متن کاملEffect of Ceramic Surface Treatments After Machine Grinding on the Biaxial Flexural Strength of Different CAD/CAM Dental Ceramics.
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different ceramic surface treatments after machining grinding on the biaxial flexural strength (BFS) of machinable dental ceramics with different crystalline phases. MATERIALS AND METHODS Disk-shape specimens (10mm in diameter and 1.3mm in thickness) of machinable ceramic cores (two silica-based and one zirconia-based ceramics) were prepar...
متن کاملInfluence of Grit-Blasting and Hydrofluoric Acid Etching Treatment on Surface Characteristics and Biofilm Formation on Zirconia
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of hydrofluoric acid etching treatment on the surface characteristics of zirconia and Streptococcus sanguinis (S. sanguinis) and Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) biofilm formation on zirconia. Zirconia specimens were prepared with different treatments, including being polished with 1000-grit SiC abrasive paper as the control grou...
متن کاملMicromorphology of ceramic etching pattern for two CAD-CAM and one conventional feldspathic porcelain and need for post-etching cleaning.
The aim of this in vitro study was to observe the effect of hydrofluoric acid (HF) on the surface of two glass ceramics for Cerec and to compare it with the effect on a conventional glass ceramic. Discs were cut from a feldspathic ceramic block (VitaMKII) and from a leucite reinforced glass ceramic (IPS EMPRESS CAD) for Cerec. 5% and 9% HF concentrations were used during 1 min and 2 min each. A...
